Thursday, April 24th, 2008
On July 1st 2007, England introduced a new law to make virtually all enclosed public places and workplaces in England smokefree. A smokefree England ensures a healthier environment, so everyone can socialise, relax, travel, shop and work free from secondhand smoke.
Anyone who doesn’t comply with the new smokefree law will be committing a criminal offence.
Anyone who smokes in a smokefree place could face an on the spot fine of GBP50 (or GBP200 if the matter goes to court)for smoking in a smokefree place, whilst anyone in charge of smokefree venue could face fines for two separate offences: failing to prevent smoking in a smokefree place and failing to display no-smoking signs.
So take care and don’t smoke inside any building or enclosed space.
